Hard work pays off

Vicky with staff award finalist letter
Vicky as finalist for a mencap staff award

Vicky is a Learning disability consultant from the RYG Leeds group, and was shortlisted for a Mencap staff award in November 2011 for all her hard work and dedication to the project.

Nominating Vicky for her passion towards RYG was Helen Cole, Vicky’s manager and Regional co-ordinator for RYG in Leeds.

Vicky is 24 and has personally experienced how unfair some employers can be to people with a learning disability.“A few years ago, I lost my job at a newsagent because they made me do a maths test. I lost all hope and became very worried that I would not find another job’.

Now employed within RYG as a learning disability consultant, Vicky helped Helen to organize the Leeds launch in November 2012.

Ever been in court?

Raising Your Game are making a short film about what it’s like going to court. We’d like to hear from you. We want to speak to as many young people as possible and you’ll help to tell us what should be in the film. You don’t have to be seen on camera but we’d like to know how you found the experience.

The film will show other young people what to expect when they go to court. It will include tips like what to wear, get there early, and why you should try and bring someone with you for support.

Our film maker Anne can listen to your experiences in confidence (what you say won’t go anywhere else – unless you want it to)

And we don’t need to know what you did, just what it was like…maybe you’re going to court soon and you don’t know what to expect?

Either way we’re ready to listen to what you have to say. We want to talk to as many different people as we can and get as many different experiences as we can.

If you do decide to be filmed we can talk to your familiy, friends, school to make sure that’s what you want, as the film will be going on the internet.

If you’re interested, or know someone who might like to talk please get in touch with our film maker Anne:
